Vadakkunnathan Temple at Thrissur also known as Rishabhari or Thenkailasam (the Kailash of the south) is one of the ancient and most prominent Shiva temples of Kerala.
The Kerala Sahitya Academy is an autonomous institution established for the promotion and development of Malayalam language and literature. The Academy was registered according to the Tiruvitamkur-Kochi Societies Registration Act of 1955 and is functioning with grant given by the Government of Kerala.
In 1796 A D., the Sakthan Thampuran, King of erstwhile Cochin State (now part of Kerala) brought 52 Christian families to Thrissur from the neighbourhood with a view to develop Thrissur as a center of trade and commerce. The Martha Mariam Church was constructed in 1814 for these Christian families.

This palace named as Vadakkekara Palace, was reconstructed in Kerala-Dutch style in 1795 by Shri. Ramavarma Thampuran of the erstwhile Princely State of Cochin, well known as Sakthan Thampuran, and is preserved by Archaeological Department.

It is believed that the Cheraman Perumal Juma Masjid was constructed in Kodungallur in 629 AD. It was the first Islamic religious place in India and second in the World. The renowned King of Muziris, the Cheraman Perumal went to Arabia and embraced Islam. He settled in Jeddah and married to the sister of the King of Jeddah. After the death od Cheraman Perumal, the king came to this place and constructed the present Juma Masjid as per the wish of Cherama King. The mosque was built in the style and design of a Hindu temple.

Peechi Dam, 23km from Thrissur is an irrigation project site which offers boating facilities at the reservoir. If you are lucky, you might even spot a wild tusker or two on the forested banks, which form part of the 125 sq. km Peechi Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary.
East of Chalakudy, near the entrance of the Sholayar forest ranges are the beautiful waterfalls of Athirapally and Vazhachal. Athirapally is 63 km and Vazhachal 68 km away from Thrissur. The catchments of the Peechi-Vazhani dam, is the sanctuary known for the ecological sensitiveness of the Elenjikuthu waterfalls, and wild animals. The sanctuary is part of the Palapilli - Nelliyampathy forests. Boating, bird watching and trekking are permitted here.
The famous Ayyappa temple at Aarattupuzha is just 14 kms south of Thrissur town. Koodalmanikyam Sree Bharatha Temple is situated 25 km away from Thrissur in the Kodungallur route. A distinctive feature of Koodalmanikyam temple is that there is only one single Prathista.The 'Mukkudi Nivedyam' and 'Brinjal Nivedyam' offered at the day of 'Avittom' star in the Malayalam month of 'Thulam' is famous. This ancient temple is perhaps the only one in India dedicated to Bharatha, the brother of Sree Rama.
Mammiyoor temple or Mammiyur Mahadeva Kshetram is a Shiva temple near Guruvayoor temple, Kerala, south India. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the splendour and grandeur of the Mummiyur is enhanced by the paintings on the walls and the exquisite sculptures. Every devotee who goes to Guruvayoor is supposed to go to Mammiyoor also, as the ritual goes. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple premises.

This is the Elephant park near Sree Krishna Temple at Guruvayoor, 34km from Thrissur. Punnathurkotta was once the palace of a local ruler, but the palace grounds are now used to house the elephants belonging to the Guruvayoor temple, and has been renamed Anakkotta (meaning "Elephant Fort"). There are currently 86 elephants housed there. The elephants are ritual offerings made by the devotees of Lord Guruvayurappa.

This Sree Rama Temple is situated at Thriprayar about 24 km away from Thrissur. In the dim past, this river is believed to have skirted the temple on three sides and hence the sacred place is called Thirupuraiyar or most popularly as Triprayar. The exquisite wood carvings, sculptures and Mural Paintings are an interesting sight. The Triprayar temple was originally under the domain of the Zamorin rulers of Kerala.
Vilangankunnu is a situated in 7 km away from Thrissur. This hillock has been converted by the Tourism Department as an amusement park. This is a beautiful hill which is a good picnic spot.
